PRESS RELEASE INTERNATIONAL SONG CONTEST PICKS LOCAL POP Dunstable based songwriter Brian Heywood is recognized by international song contest when he gets into the top five finalists for the pop category. Texas, March 7th, 2006: Dunstable based musician/composer Brian Heywood, has recently received the honour of being named a finalist by the US based Song of the Year (http://www.songoftheyear.com) song writing contest. Song of the Year is an international song writing contest supporting VH-1's Save the Music Foundation. The Song of the Year judges are some of the biggest names in music including Grammy award winners Norah Jones and Sheila E. along with Music Industry professionals such as record company executives, publishers and producers. Song of the Year is excited to recognize Brian for his exceptional song
writing ability for the song "The Reverend Sharpton", which
appeared on the EnQ album "Tear Down the Barriers." Brian competed
against songwriters from all over the world for this honour and the other
finalists in the Pop category hailed from afar a field as Germany and
California. When asked what inspired the song, Brian commented that he
wrote it after seeing a BBC programme about the near fatal stabbing of
the Reverend Al Sharpton, the US civil rights activist who fights violence
with non-violence. In a separate evaluation of the track, the organisation's
independent reviewer commented "This composition shows versatility
and originality with a touch of humour."
